Beckner family collection, 1801-1956.

This collection consists of 34 items associated with the Beckner family of Clark County, Kentucky. Many of the items deal with various family genealogies such as the Beckner, Kittrell, Carter, Cabell, Strode, Lander, Fauntleroy, Boswell, Hazelrigg, and Fletcher families of Virginia and Kentucky. Also included is a 1941 certificate of baptism for Lucien Kittrell; a notebook of marriages from 1781-1822 and some early wills ca. 1674; a 1906 announcement of the opening of the Beckner and Beckner law firm in Winchester, Kentucky; Beckner family correspondence; essays dated 1841-1842 by Nancy Hickman of Winchester; Clark County Court motion to close a road; three telegrams dated June 23, 1928, congratulating Marie Warren Beckner on her marriage; other Beckner family correspondence; newspaper and magazine clippings from 1883-1942; a mayor's proclamation concerning the Pastime Theatre tragedy in Winchester, Ky., March, 1918; two Winchester Telephone Company share certificates; a photograph of Samuel R. Curry for the Elizabeth Quisenberry descendents of Kentucky; menu and guest list for the Queen of Roumania in Bardstown, Nov. 18, 1926; a poem by Marie Beckner; an 1801 survey notice from Ohio County, Ky., signed by Samuel McDowell, Jr. for John Holt; an index and notes on the William Hickman charge book dated 1830-1856; notes on the seige of Strode Station in Clark County, Kentucky; a biographical sketch of John Strode Lander; and a humorous diploma created by Lucien Beckner, May, 1930, entitled "Diploma of the Pithecanthropean University."
